Class number bounds and Catalan's equation

چکیده

We improve a criterion of Inkeri and show that if there is a solution to Catalan’s equation x − y = ±1, (1) with p and q prime numbers greater than 3 and both congruent to 3 (mod 4), then p and q form a double Wieferich pair. Further, we refine a result of Schwarz to obtain similar criteria when only one of the exponents is congruent to 3 (mod 4). Indeed, in light of the results proved here it is reasonable to suppose that if q ≡ 3 (mod 4), then p and q form a double Wieferich pair.

Coefficient bounds for a new class of univalent functions involving Salagean operator and the modified Sigmoid function

We define a new subclass of univalent function based on Salagean differential operator and obtained the initial Taylor coefficients using the techniques of Briot-Bouquet differential subordination in association with the modified sigmoid function. Further we obtain the classical Fekete-Szego inequality results.

On Polynomials Related to Powers of the Generating Function of Catalan's Numbers

Catalan's sequence of numbers {C„}% = {1,1,2,5,14,42,...} (nr.1459 and ,4000108 of [14]) emerges in the solution of many combinatorial problems (see [2], [4], [5], and [16] for further references). The moments ju2k of the normalized weight function of Chebyshev's polynomials of the second kind are given by Ck /2 (see, e.g., [3], Lemma 4.3, p. 160 for /= 0, and [17], p. II3). This sequence also ...

Occupation probabilities and fluctuations in the asymmetric simple inclusion process.

The asymmetric simple inclusion process (ASIP), a lattice-gas model of unidirectional transport and aggregation, was recently proposed as an "inclusion" counterpart of the asymmetric simple exclusion process. In this paper we present an exact closed-form expression for the probability that a given number of particles occupies a given set of consecutive lattice sites. Our results are expressed i...

Upper bounds on the solutions to n = p+m^2

ardy and Littlewood conjectured that every large integer $n$ that is not a square is the sum of a prime and a square. They believed that the number $mathcal{R}(n)$ of such representations for $n = p+m^2$ is asymptotically given by begin{equation*} mathcal{R}(n) sim frac{sqrt{n}}{log n}prod_{p=3}^{infty}left(1-frac{1}{p-1}left(frac{n}{p}right)right), end{equation*} where $p$ is a prime, $m$ is a...

How Much Should a 19th-Century French Bastard Inherit

Catalan's formula, for the portion of the inheritance that a legitimate child of a 19th-century deceased French gentleman should receive, is given a new proof (using Difference Operators), and generalized. Another, more computationally efficient, formula is also derived. Catalan's Formula Chrystal's classical text[Ch] (II, p. 416) contains the following charming exercise, due to Cata-lan[Ca]. B...
